Although there is considerable debate as to the defining features of neoliberal thought and practice, it is most commonly associated with laissez-faire economics . The United States has embraced this movement in history, and this idea of freedom for many years has tragically been threatened during the 9/11 event, which was interpreted as an attack of the free world enterprise. Neoliberalism’s theory enables entrepreneurship freedom, which holds moral integrity and practices good ethics. As I mentioned in the prefatory remarks for our reading of A Brief History of Neoliberalism, David Harvey sets out to analyze a central contradiction of neoliberalism, between the theoretical project to reorganize capitalism around and extension and intensification of property rights, free markets (especially in the financial sector) and free trade, and a political project to re-establish conducive conditions for capital accumulation and for re-entrenching elite economic power (p. 19). leven years ago, David Harvey published A Brief History of Neoliberalism, now one of the most cited books on the subject.
